Service Rules

The mDNS Responder Service Rules Screen displays information about Responder Service Rules. The screen is also used to create, edit, and delete Responder Service Rules. Service Rules specify the services that will be shared between servers and clients. If there are no service rules configured, the Responder Device will learn all the services, but will not process any query received from the mDNS client. After creating a Service Rule, configure Server Policies and Client Policies for the Service Rule. A Service Rule must contain a Server Policy and/or a Client Policy.

As long as there is at least one Service Rule that matches a client, the client will be able to discover the advertised service. If there are multiple Service Rules that match the client request, that client will see those advertised services as well. For a client, there should be at least one Service Rule present on the Responder Switch. A Responder Switch will start matching the Service Rules present, and will share the services if one Service Rule (which should be the first matched rule) matches.
