Server Policies
The mDNS Responder Server Policies Screen displays information about Responder Server Policies. The screen is also used to create, edit, and delete Responder Server Policies. Server Policies are part of a Service Rule and are applied to traffic originating from a server (sharing source). A Server Policy is required if you want to share a service. The Server Policy is configured for the “sharing side”. For example, if you are going to share a printer, the source who is sharing the printer is called “Printer Server”. The Server Policy is used to restrict which servers are allowed to share the printer (e.g., only servers located in specified VLANS, locations, MAC addresses).
Creating a Server Policy
Select the Responder Device on which you want to configure the Server Policy from the "Server Policies Of Responder" drop-down at the top of the screen. Click on the Add icon, complete the fields as described below, then click on the Create button. A Server Policy must contain at least one of the mapping criteria (e.g., VLAN, Location, Access Role Profile, User Name, MAC address).
- Policy Name - The user-configured name for the policy (e.g., Printer Server, Scanner Server). The Policy Name can be a maximum of 31 characters in length.
- VLANs - Select the VLAN(s) to include in the policy. Only servers on this VLAN(s) can share the service.
- Access Role Profiles - Select the Access Role Profile(s) to include in the policy. This condition is only supported on devices running AOS 8.7R2 and AWOS 4.0.1 and higher.
- Locations - Enter a location(s) to include in the policy. This field provide location(s) to be mapped to the server policy. Only servers with this location(s) can share the service (see notes below).
- User Names - Enter a user name(s) to include in the policy. Only servers with this user name(s) can share the service.
- MACs - Enter a MAC address(es) to include in the policy. Only servers with this MAC address(es) can share the service.
Notes:
- If the Port Alias is set, the Location = Port Alias.
- If the Port Alias is not set AND the System Location is set (not default, by default, System Location is empty), the Location = System Location + Port ID (e.g., System Location = "x" and the Port ID = 1/1/1, the Location will be "x 1/1/1").
- If the Port Alias is not set AND the System Name is set (not default, by default, System Name is "no-name"), the Location = System Name + Port ID (e.g., System Name = "sx" and the Port ID = 1/1/1, the Location will be "sx 1/1/1").
- If none of above are valid, the Location = Chassis ID + Port ID.
- For APs, the Location will be the Location of the AOS Port that the AP is linking to.
