WCF Profile

The UPAM Web Content Filtering (WCF) Profile Screen displays all configured WCF Profiles and is used to create, edit, and delete WCF Profiles. WCF Profiles can be configured to allow/deny client access through Stellar APs to web sites based on specific security or content conditions (e.g., Malware Sites, Gambling). When a client tries to access a restricted website, the page will fail to load, and the browser will display an error. A single WCF profile can contain multiple filtering conditions. To configure Web Content Filtering on an AP, you create a WCF Profile, configure an Access Role Profile or SSID with the WCF Profile, and then apply the Access Role Profile or SSID to APs. The basic Web Content Filtering Workflow is shown below.

Web Content Filtering is supported on Stellar APs running AWOS 4.0.2.x and higher (except AP1101, AP1201H, AP1201L, AP1201HL, and AP1261-RW-B models). The feature is supported for an unlimited number of APs on Premium and Business Accounts. It is not supported on BASE or Trial Accounts.

Web Content Filtering is enabled on APs at the AP or AP Group level. Note that if you enable Web Content Filtering at the AP Group level, it is enabled on all APs in the group that support Web Content Filtering (supported APs running AWOS 4.0.2.x and higher). If necessary, you can disable the feature on individual APs.

Web Content Filtering OmniVista connects to a cloud-based Web Content Filtering Service to determine access to filtered URLs. The OmniVista Server must be able to connect to the Internet to access this service to perform Web Content Filtering. The status of the OmniVista connection to this service is displayed at the top of the screen - WCF Cloud Service.

Note: OmniVista automatically syncs with the Web Content Filtering Service every 24 hours. The feature was introduced in Release 4.5.3. If this is a new OmniVista Cirrus Account, go to the License Screen and click on the Check For Updates To Subscription button at the top of the screen perform an immediate sync. If this is an existing OmniVista Account that was upgraded to 4.5.3, this step is not necessary. You can begin using the feature immediately.

Web Content Filtering Workflow

To configure Web Content Filtering on APs:

1. Enable Web Content Filtering on APs using the Access Points Screen (Network - AP Registration - Access Points) or AP Group Screen (Network - AP Registration - AP Group).

2. Create a WCF Profile as shown below.

3. Configure an Access Role Profile (Unified Access - Template - Access Role Profile) or SSID (WLAN - SSIDs) with a WCF Profile.

4. Apply the Access Role Profile or SSID to AP(s) or AP Group(s).

If necessary you can disable the feature on individual APs in the group. Select an AP(s) in the Managed APs List, click on the Edit icon, select Web Content Filtering, then disable the Use Private Config and Web Content Filtering fields.
